A Day in the life of a beachcomber

Visiting Polstreath Beach, Mevagissey

I’d seen Polstreath Beach all over Instagram, admiring the beautiful views and famous stairway, but had never actually visited. So, on my latest beachcombing adventure in Cornwall, I finally made the trip — and my first visit certainly didn’t disappoint!

Polstreath Beach MevagissyThe Famous Stairway to Polstreath Beach

Polstreath Beach, near Mevagissey, is known for its steep, winding staircase, which people often compare to the stairways of Bali. The views on the way down are absolutely beautiful, with the clear blue sea and Cornish coastline coming into view as you descend.

Of course, what goes down must come back up! Those narrow, incredibly steep steps are quite a challenge, and I can confirm that the climb back up was hard work. Definitely worth it for the views, though!

Beachcombing for Sea Glass

Once on the beach, it was time to explore the shingle and see what the tide had left behind. The sea was a gorgeous clear blue, and it was lovely to wander along the shoreline, scanning the pebbles for little treasures.

As always, I was hoping to find some sea glass to add to my collection, but unfortunately, there wasn’t a piece to be found.

Instead, I stumbled across something rather special — my very first marble!

You never know what you might discover when beachcombing. Even when the sea glass doesn’t appear, there’s always the possibility of finding something unexpected, and this little marble made my visit all the more memorable.

Would I Visit Polstreath Beach Again?Polstreath Beach Mevagissy 2

Absolutely! Despite the steep climb and no sea glass finds, Polstreath Beach is a beautiful spot to visit if you’re exploring the Mevagissey coastline. The stunning views, crystal-clear water and peaceful shingly shore made it well worth the effort.

I might have come away with just one little treasure, but it was a first for my collection — and that’s what makes beachcombing in Cornwall so special. You never know what the next beach or tide might bring!

Happy beachcombing! 💙
