Although amber does not oxidize as much as other gemstones, it is still sensitive to peroxides. So be careful not to expose it to soap, water, chlorine and even perfume. If you do come in contact with any of these chemicals, just wipe the piece clean and let it air dry so no residue is left behind. It is also flammable and can be ignited with a direct flame. Steamers, hot water and ultrasonic cleaners can also damage this gemstone. To clean amber, use mild soap, tepid tap water and a very soft cloth.
